Cameron loved nighttime. He loved it almost as much as he loved mornings, where they were full of the everything and anything that he could possibly do. Make a new friend. Beat a pirate. Steal something so fine his eyes would goggle. Morning was when sunlight streaked in through grimy windows and made his skin warm in stripes. Morning was when he could stretch and feel muscles mutter and bones groan at being awake and alert and alive.
At night though? It was when the stars and the castle's light fought against one another and he could sit anywhere in nature and listen to the relaxed breathing of the wind as it slept.
He shoved out of the twin bed and, careful not to disturb his roommates lest he be stuck with someone calling a teacher, Cam carefully crept across the wooden floor. Once reaching a window, he clenched his eyes tightly, thought of a happy, wondrous feeling, and managed to flow steadily to the earth ground below his feet.
Cameron left the castle to its own sleep, before his nimble legs sprinted quickly across the dewy grass.
The boy had to stop himself from whooping loudly in excitement as his feet carried him around the school and outside its borders, releasing his pent up enthusiasm in a call not unlike a rooster once he was sure no one within the academy would wake up from it.
It was these sorts of nights he lived for. When he could shout to the high heavens and no one would dare utter a word against him. It was pure ecstasy to be his own person, to admire nature in its purest form, to not have a care in the world. If growing up meant to forget this, leave it all behind, Cameron would never, ever grow old. The mere thought brought tears to his eyes, choked his throat, and made his knees wobble. Of course, this was all too girly for him to admit, but that didn't make it any less true.
Shoving any thoughts aside that didn't have to do with having fun, Cam let his body fall back onto the flowers, the petals soft as a mother's kisses breaking his fall. Emerald eyes gazed upwards almost forlornly, pink lips, not quite reaching the transition into manhood, pouted.
"Second to the right, and straight on 'till morning," he muttered, a hand raising stretch outwards towards the sky, "That's what he always said. I wonder if I'll ever actually be able to do it."

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) What she needed to do was run. Just run, take her mind off everything. The blonde was staring up at her dormitory ceiling when she decided this. So her plan was simple. Sneak out, go outside, run for a while, and go back in. She swapped her ratty t-shirt for a fitted tank top, and grabbed her shoes, a hoodie, and took off. She was sure to be quiet. That was the prime rule of sneaking out. Be quiet or get caught. She knew this well.
Finally. One jump out later...Angel was outside. So she put her sneakers on the ground, placing one foot in each as she pulled the dark hoodie over her tiny frame. The final touch was a scrunchie on her wrist, which she used to tie her hair up into a ponytail. She looked down at herself for a moment, and then took off. The silence in the air and breeze soothed her some. Brought her back to every time she'd run away before.
She ran, feet hitting the ground with force, enough power to keep her going. She could run for hours and feel better. It was her thing. A way to keep her relaxed, and a way to wipe her mind of all the bullshit that clouded her thoughts usually. Angel finally slowed down as she heard a noise. It was faint, but an animail spirit had it's advantages. She ran toward the direction of the noise, which sounded like an animal call. And she thought about what animal made a call like that.
And a few moments later, she had her lightbulb moment. A rooster. And a rooster call meant one person. A smile flickered on her lips as she thought of that person. But she wasn't surprised to realize he was out. She followed the direction from which the call came, happy to know she wasn't alone. Usually, she was, and Angel was happy to have her alone time, away from the student body. However, there were always exceptions. And tonight was one of them.
The short blonde came to a stop when she finally saw her young friend. Cameron Knight was probably the only person Angel really cared about at this point in time. However, she still had doubts, and her insecurites grew larger at the idea of caring about someone. But Cammy was a sweet boy without a care in the world it looked like, and Angel just wanted to be like him at times. But she still did care about him, and saw him as a little brother, kinda considering him to be family, making her even more terrifed of what hurt could come if he left.
The blonde shook her head, emptying out all terrifying thoughts, and instead focusing on him. She approached the bed of flowers and smiled. "Hey Cammy. You needed to get out too?" She asked, taking a seat on the dirt floor, watching him.

The blonde inhaled shakily, eyes watering slightly. It just wasn't fair! Why couldn't he fly away? Why couldn't he just leave everything behind and keep heading towards that little star and never change? Why was his body forced to grow up?
Swallowing thickly, Cameron sat up and rubbed furiously at his eyes. He wasn't crying. He never did that because it was girlie and he wasn't girlie. He wasn't manly either! But he was just..boy-ie. Boy-ie, that's right. Cameron was boy-ie.
"Hey Cammy. You needed to get out too?"
The sudden voice startled the boy and, snapping his head quickly to his side, Cameron let a relieved grin spread his lips. It was weird he didn't notice Angel's immediate presence, usually he was so good at that. Of course, crying usually did distract him..
Which he wasn't doing. It was just the..stars. They were hypnotizing him. Yeah, just the stars.
Nodding his head, Cameron leaned back on his elbows, leg laid out before him.
"It's so..quiet and stuffy in there," he grumbled, lips pouting again, "I just don't get how people can take that." Glancing around, Cam smiled again. "But out here, ahh, I could sleep out here all night!" The boy emphasized this by once again falling on his back. With a a mischievous grin, he tugged on the girl's arm, resulting in her also falling laying beside him.
Cameron liked Angel. She wasn't like other girls. She was still a girl of course, but she didn't talk too much and she definitely didn't wear dresses. Also, she didn't seem to like much girlie stuff like make up and flowers. She wore make up, but Cameron never really paid it much attention. She wasn't like most girls who caked it on their faces and thought it was attractive. Scrunching his nose, Cam thought about that older girl, Vanessa. Ugh, her personality matched her face, that's for sure.
But Angel actually looked kinda pretty. In a girlie way that he liked, Cameron guessed. Either way, he really liked Angel. She was nice and didn't mind getting dirty and running around with him.
Smiling sneakily once again, the boy turned to the girl beside him. "Hey, wanna catch fireflies?" he asked excitedly, eyes darting to glance at the flickering lights dancing in the air.

& I WAKE UP EVERY EVENING WITH A BIG SMILE ON MY FACE ( and it never seems out of place ) She just watched him. Something about Cam was so pure. And innocent. But never, had she ever seen him cry. He looked so torn up and upset, and all she wanted to do was hug him and tell him everything would be just fine. But then she watched him rub his eyes, trying to destroy all evidence of his tears. And Angel just sat and watched him, quietly.
He was very cute, though. That was apparent at the grin that crossed his lips. He must've been happy to see her, which was good. Because she was quite happy to see him too. It's so..quiet and stuffy in there, I just don't get how people can take that. But out here, ahh, I could sleep out here all night! She laughed. "I could too, Cammy." She murmured, until she realized that he was tugging her arm, and causing her to fall beside him, laughing once more.
They got along so easily, especially because Angel wasn't a typical girl. She didn't like dresses, or make-up, or flowers. Nor did she just constantly talk like some girls she knew. She also wore mini mal make up, which was always a good thing too. And consider ing all of that, well, Cameron and Angel grew to have a wonder ful friendship. They both could just play and get dirty, and she wouldn't give a care. Angel felt her best around Cam. Because with him, well, she felt like she belonged.
His sneaky look caused her to raise a brow. "Hey, wanna catch fireflies?" The blonde could hear his excitement. "I'd love to!" She watched him and had another moment in which she realized how much she cared about him. "Shall we go, then? We can make it into a firefly catching adventure!"

The instant the word "adventure" reaches Cameron's ears, he's immediately the happiest boy in the world. His heart began pumping faster, his cheeks stretching to accommodate his toothy grin, and his adrenaline kicks it up a few notches. Jumping to his feet, the boy reached down once to entwine his fingers with Angel's before setting off across the field.
Much like, before, the ringing bells of freedom coursed through the boy's veins. The wet grass, cool wind, and nothing to block his way was amazing. His boyish fingers gave a gentle squeeze to the girl behind him, giving out a laugh that he could actually hold a girl's hand and it didn't make him feel gross and actually just meant they liked each other for who they were, and not for being a boy and girl.
A gentle glow permeated the darkness around him and, blinking, Cameron slowed his run to a stop. He was such an in-the-moment boy, he tended to forget exactly what he was supposed to be doing. Giving another happy smile to Angel, the blonde released her hand and turned his gaze to watch the drifting particles of light.
"Ready?" he asked quietly, as though his hushed voice averted alerting their prey. With a cheeky grin, Cameron's bare feet padded softly atop the unkempt grass, finger splayed outward and arms outstretched. With one in sight, the blonde kept his eyes fixed on it, pupils dilating larger and smaller with each tiny ray of light its body emitted.
After several moments of open palms and soft footfalls, Cameron stopped and, giving another confused blink, straightened his posture. Turning to Angel, he tilted his head.
"Uhm," he began, a hand sheepishly rubbing his cheek, "how'm I s'posed to catch it without, y'know..killing it?"
No one ever said Cameron was a particularly smart boy.
