*this is me,
Weaknesses:
- Pride :: In a lot of ways, this is Basil's greatest weaknesses. He can act selfish, moody, and self-centered, and indeed even downright rude. He's flighty, though often without realizing it, ignoring others in favour of what he's focusing on at the time.
- Unorganized :: Though his appearance and mind are logical and in-order, his home life is not. Basil seldom cleans up after himself, preferring to jump onto the next big thing on his mind. As such, he has a maid, though she's more of a scolding mother than anything else. Still, she tends to his house, bringing him meals and taking away the old ones.
- Addiction :: One would be lying if they said Basil isn't dependent on tobacco. When thinking or in distress, he lights up a pipe and can smoke for hours, and alcohol is a common pleasure he indulges in.
- Impatience :: This speaks for itself. Basil doesn't like waiting for anything. If there's a new lead, he'll be out the door immediately.
- Workaholic :: It's true the man doesn't get much sleep. In between teaching at a magic school and being a licensed detective, rest isn't in his schedule. As such, he's prone to falling asleep at inopportune moments, including falling over.
Strengths
- Determination :: This teacher's fierce when it comes to something he wants. If he's to beat someone in a challenge or determine the end of a mystery, he doesn't give up.
- Powers of Deduction :: Even the most simplistic detail can lead Basil to the correct outcome. For example, the mere feel of the paper an anonymous letter might be written on can tell him just where it's from and indeed, the price of it.
- Disguise :: The stage lost a good actor in Basil. He enjoys hiding his true appearance in favour of the most unlikely outfits. When the man's undercover, not only his attire changes however, but his personality and even soul too. When appearing a grungy nobody, his eyes seem to lose a shine and it's common for more lines to appear around his eyes and mouth. But when incognito as a happy youth, smiles are all too usual and the very way in which his feet moves drastically changes.
- Courage :: If anything is true about this detective, it's his courage. No matter the situation, he'll rush head first if it'll solve a case. He'll even save someone because he's just that sort of person. Be it a decrepit house or a burning building, his sense of justice outweighs his own safety.
- Wisdom :: Though some may disagree Basil's too far gone in his head to be wise, those who truly know him know the opposite is true. He's logical and always thinks of others before himself. He knows just how the criminal mind works, not to mention his vocabulary is quite extensive.
Secrets None
Personality: Basil's a complicated man. It's actually very hard for him to be affectionate and polite. He's just such a rushed person, his mind constantly racing, that he's no time for niceties. He dislikes children and women alike, finding them quite untidy, needy, and just.. clingy. He's a man that enjoys his own company, and romance overall just seems to bother him.
The detective quite enjoys the presence of mice. He has one as a companion, such a curious little creature in his opinion. He likes to mimic its characteristics and study it, even performing harmless tests on it. If he even moderately likes any other living thing in the world, it's Edgar.
Basil's prone to having fits, sometimes even sulking tantrums when something goes wrong. As such, he took up the hobby of playing his violin. Indeed, because of his temper he chooses to practice his instrument each time he's stressed and doesn't want to snap at anyone. Unfortunately, it's common for him to forget he even owns one, thus that method can be deemed inefficient.
*i'm no supermodel,
Eyes: Brown~
Skin: Average Caucasian.
Build: Quite skinny, not all that muscular, but could be described as lean.
Appearance: Basil stands at an even 5'9 with a weight of 129. He's quite light on his feet because of this, and can easily sleuth wherever he wants. His hair is usually messy, though not unattractive. He does take frequent showers and brushes his hair, however his nervous habit of running his hands through it certainly make it eternally untidy.
His eyes are a deep brown, circular in shape and are usually quite wide and curious. He noticed just about everything he comes across, remembering each detail printed in his brain due to his keen eyesight. Basil likes to keep his lips in a quirky position, not quite a smirk, but not exactly a smile either.
There's no sure way of saying what Basil likes to wear. Ordinarily he dons comfortable, though professional clothing, but that's only when he's not undercover. He can go anywhere from being a pirate with an eye patch to an elderly fellow and a fake mustache. He frequently dresses up (sometimes just for fun) in order to stay on top of his game. The most eccentric the better the disguise is his philosophy.
*this is what I can do,
Abilities:
- Photographic Memory
- Amazing deductive skills
*my life story,
Hometown: Surrey, England.
Parents: Annabel & Clyde Holmes
Siblings: None
History: Basil's life hadn't always been so complex. True, he's always been a curious fellow, searching for other's lost items, tracking down culprits of minor incidents. Criminal Justice has always fascinated the man, though this ideal wasn't realized until the day his parents went missing.
There was no explanation for their sudden departure. Though it's all but clear they were taken, no one's ever been certain. They were loving parents though, and Basil couldn't imagine them just leaving him. There was never any motive for them to have been kidnapped, though. No evidence, no struggle. They simply disappeared.
In light of this tragedy for the boy, Basil was sent to an orphanage where he lived the rest of his childhood. In an attempt to block out what had happened, he spent nearly all of his time interrogating other children, searching for clues, and all around being an amateur detective. This state of being helped to calm him, setting aside any personal problems so that he could focus on other things.
Recently the man has been in the acquaintance of the man who possesses Ratigan's spirit, and though he has shown no outward signs of true villain behaviour, Basil's more than careful around him.
*how we do,
rp sample: "No, no, no!"
An irritated voice sounded around the otherwise quiet room, save for the faint crackling of a dying fire. Its embers burned weakly, emitting only the faintest of light.
A loud sigh was heard, followed by the crumpling of paper and a hand throwing it over a shoulder.
"This just won't do," Basil muttered, eyes straining in the dull lighting, "I almost had him, almost! But it was just cat hair? How can that be? The poor woman didn't even own a cat!"
Leaning back in his chair, the detective gazed at his ceiling, eyes taking on a weary gaze as lines appeared around his mouth. "Granted, they might belong to the culprit's cat, but the possibility of narrowing down a tabby in this city's nigh impossible. If only there was a better way.."
Sighing once again, Basil allowed his eyes to slide closed, breathing falling into a steady rhythm. If it wasn't for the occasional annoyed huff, one could easily mistake the man for asleep. Opening his bleary eyes once again, he heaved one more sigh, just for good measure, and raised his arms to rub his eyes tiredly.
Basil rose unsteadily to his feet and, yawning, glanced around the dimming room.
"I suppose it's about time I went to bed," he commented bitterly, "Children to teach tomorrow.."
anything else: Nope~
